About Us
The Firefly Club is a local charity for Cancer Awareness and Support Foundation and the Firefly Objectives are as follows:
To remove the stigma and embarrassment of personal cancer problems in young men and women, engendering confidence to communicate with peers, partners, parents, family and health professionals if the occasion should arise.
The running of “roadshows”, presentations, seminars and social informal “drop ins” taking place in sixth form centres, sporting venues, youth and health clubs, pubs and social clubs.
To organise social, cultural, community and educational events where both male and female participants can receive the message of early cancer detection and prevention in a relaxed, friendly and receptive environment.
To encourage females to be involved with their male counterparts in understanding health awareness and the importance of best life practice.
To bring together all local communities and cultures during “Firefly” fund raising events.
To secure funding to provide a vehicle for a free shuttle transport service “FIREFLY EXPRESS” for patients undergoing cancer treatments at regional treatment centres, to ease the psychological, physical and financial stress faced by patients and their families
How can you help?
Become a club member of the Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support Foundation and help or get involved whenever you can by filling in the Firefly Club Membership Form on the Downloads page.
We have intentionally nicknamed the charity “The Firefly Club” as a means to express the ethos behind it’s organisation, we hope that we will all feel a great part of the club, to enjoy its friendship, cammeraderie, social and emotional involvement and join in a common cause to raise the awareness and to smoothe the way through the cancer journey. Please enjoy exploring this website, add the dates to your social diary, get involved wherever possible and contact Andrew Hurst on 07793 967139 or Denise Dunn on 07738 390541 with any ideas, help or advice you can give us, because as they say in the trade “every little helps” ... and it could change a life!
